Wedding Photography in Sorrento, Italy

As a wedding photographer in Herts and Essex I am really excited to be asked to photograph a wedding abroad, especially when it is in such a beautiful setting as Sorrento, near Napoli, Italy. Tim and Vicky were such a great couple to work with and I feel I have captured a good selection of photographs which really tell the story of their wedding day.

If you have never been to Sorrento then don’t do what I did, which was to plug in my satnav in the hire car when I arrived at Napoli. The journey from Napoli to Sorrento should take approximately an hour and quarter, which the satnav confirmed. Unfortunately when arriving in Sorrento the majority of roads are extremely tight (suitable for walking or mopeds) and the satnav may try and find your hotel via these impossible routes. This added about an hour onto the journey, so take a map instead!

After doing a recky with Tim and Vicky the day before the wedding and ensuring I had all my journeys planned out, I was able to relax and sample some of the local food and fine restaurants. The wedding day started at the Hilton Hotel in Sorrento where the bride and groom were getting ready on separate floors. The Hilton does have a nice garden area to take some pre-wedding photographs.

The ceremony took place a short journey away in the Church of San Francesco which made for a truly great setting, as well as being perfect inside, it also had a terrace area overlooking the port of Sorrento and Mount Vesuvius in the background.

The Cloisters at the Church is an open top area, well lit and perfect for the wedding photography. Vicky and Tim chose myself and RT Weddings to photograph their wedding day as they wanted an all day coverage and really liked my style. Having looked at the photography packages on offer in Italy, which all seemed to be very limited on coverage, package and time, as well as being quite expensive, made their decision to ask me and I am so very glad they did.

The weather on the day of the wedding was sunny with some cloud, just perfect for the photography. I was very pleased as it had been raining the day before and all the locations were outdoors!

The wedding party was 18 people which made for a much more intimate set of photographs and we did have some fun with the group shots and portraits.

After the ceremony we all headed off through the town on foot towards the restaurant for the wedding breakfast, great for some action shots.

The wedding breakfast was held at a lovely restaurant called Ristorante ‘o Parrucchiano which from the outside looked quite small, but was deceivingly large, with a couple of huge outdoor areas all covered with lemon and lime trees and vines. The wedding breakfast was in a smaller citrus garden and was separate from the public area.

We left the restaurant after a fantastic meal and of course not forgetting the speeches, walking back through the town. We went to another restaurant where the evening reception took place called Circolo Dei Forestieri (Foreigner’s Club). As I didn’t have my mobile studio with me we did the portraits using the see view and Mount Vesuvius as the backdrop.

I had an amazing trip to Sorrento and really enjoyed photographing Vicky and Tim’s wedding for them. If you would like me to photograph your wedding, home or abroad, please give me a call or visit my website for more information.

  1. Have just looked at your photos. I was not sure if I knew anyone, but as soon as I saw Tim I could see the family resemblence (Bev’s side – she’s NOT as good looking as me)
Glad that all went well. I will “Post” some pics of my Kevin Roy on a site and let you all know where to look.
    Best wishes to everyone.
