+Why book a professional photographer?

Wedding photography is one of the most important elements when planning a wedding because it is the only lasting memory you will take away from your wedding. You will have eaten your cake, the meal will be a distant memory and the flowers will have perished, but the photographs will be with you forever.

It's important to book a professional photographer that specialises in weddings as it will ensure you get the very best standard of photographs and that you won't be disappointed. I have been shooting weddings for over 10 years and have learnt to deal with every situation that may arise.
"Take the stress away and put yourself in the hands of a professional."

+How soon do I need to book?

Like many photographers I can get booked up 1-2 years in advance, especially on popular weekend and summer dates. Once you have booked your venue and have a wedding date set, it's worth starting your research of photographers to find the style you are looking for.

Try to look at a few different photographers to get a better idea and to find the one that is right for you. If you have left things a little bit late or are organising your wedding on a short timescale then don't despair as last minute bookings are always worth enquiring about and can sometimes benefit in price.
"My advice is to book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment."

+How do I choose my wedding photographer?

Firstly, you must absolutely love their photographs and the style of their work. It's wise to arrange to meet a photographer before booking them as you will need to make sure you feel comfortable around them. After all, you will be spending the most important day of your life with them and you will want to feel relaxed.

Look closely at their portfolio and make sure you are shown complete wedding albums and not just a selection of their best photographs. Consistency is the key. Most photographers have also have a blog so take a good look through this and make sure you are happy with the style being displayed.

Make sure you use a full-time wedding photographer and someone who is qualified.
"You'll be pleased to know that I tick all those boxes."

+What if a friend has offered to shoot my wedding?

It's great when friends want to help you out. How much do you value your wedding photography and how much do you value your friendship. Unless your friend is a professional wedding photographer then you should be wary of this. They will be taking on the daunting and challenging task of photographing a wedding and on the day will feel huge pressure to get things right for you.

A professional wedding photographer will have had years of experience and has been trained to cope with any situation as well as the many varying conditions that occur on a wedding day. A professional will also have the necessary back-up equipment and weather contingency plans in place.

However, if your friend is a photographer, then just be aware that wedding photography does need their total commitment for the majority of the day. Most importantly if they fail to live up to your expectations you could be risking a good friendship. I'd personally never consider being a guest and a photographer at a wedding as it would compromise the level of service and attention to detail.
"Don't compromise a friendship just to save money."

+Do you personally photograph our wedding?

Yes, it always me as I don't outsource any of my wedding bookings. It will be me taking your photographs on your wedding day and on my 2 photographer service a second photographer assisting me. The style you see on my website is the style you are booking.
"All the photography on this website is taken by Dean Robson."

+Who owns the copyright on our photographs?

The USB stick of images that is supplied in my packages provides you with full "printing" rights. The copyright by law is automatically afforded to the photographer and this is standard practice across the photographic industry.

The only thing you cannot do is to sell the photographs on to another person or business.

By retaining the copyright and providing you with a licence to print it means that I can also keep a copy of your photographs backed up on my system for added security. If you ever lose your copy, you can contact me for a backup.
"You get full size files which you can print whenever you like."

+How much time should we allow for photographs?

All day photography includes from the bridal preparations right through to your first dance covering all the key parts of your day. At certain points during the day the I will need some time with you, but hopefully not take away too much of your day, so you can enjoy the drinks reception and mingle with your guests.

As a minimum you should allocate 1 hour and 30 minutes for your drinks reception. This will allow 15-25 minutes to take the formal group photographs (as long as there isn't an extensive list and your guests are cooperative and willing, on average 3 minutes per group). A romantic shoot utilising the grounds and backdrops of your venue will usually take a further 15-25 minutes, which then leaves you with some time for socialising with your guests. This gives me the opportunity to capture natural guest shots and venue details.
"Allow a minimum of 1.5 hours for your reception drinks."

+Do we need to supply you with a list of every photograph we would like?

As an experience wedding photographer I am pretty good at capturing all the moments of your day. A list can be useful for the formal group photographs but for the rest of the coverage, it's what I do anyway.

Following a list and ticking things off does slow me down and can mean that I miss natural moments as direct consequence.
"My aim is to capture all the events of your day."

+Can our guests take photographs along side you?

I welcome this as it is a special day for friends and family, and most of them will have a camera or phone with them to record their own special memories. The thing to remember is that you have paid for a professional photographer, so priority should be given to the professional especially during the formal group photographs. After all, you don't want lots of photographs where everyone is looking at the wrong camera.

As the hired professional photographer on the day I should have exclusivity and will be the sole professional still photographer at the wedding.
"Guests can take photographs along side me as long as they don't get in the way."

+How far do you travel?

I am willing to travel to most locations for a wedding. Having photographed several weddings abroad including Switzerland, Italy and even Australia, I am experienced with this. There are likely to be additional costs for travel outside of the Essex and Hertfordshire region, please enquire if this is something you are looking for.
"I can travel anywhere for your wedding."

+Do you offer engagement or pre-wedding shoots?

Yes, some of my packages can include an engagement or pre-wedding shoot. This would normally take place at a public location with suitable backgrounds (as not all venues allow engagement shoots) and is fairly local to us. I would normally combine the engagement shoot with the final meeting before the wedding to finalise all the timings and details etc.
"Contact me to find out more."

+How quickly do we receive our wedding photographs?

Your photographs will be available to view on-line within 7-14 days of your wedding. Your USB stick of fully printable images will be sent shortly after this, usually coinciding with your return from the honeymoon.

I always try to put a "sneak preview" up on my blog soon after your wedding so you can see some of your wedding photographs within just a few days.
"A very quick turnaround, ready within 2 weeks."

+What happens if you are sick?

I have never missed a wedding due to sickness or injury, but I do have a contingency in place. I have an arrangement with another local photography company who produce very similar work and who would be able to cover your wedding in this event.

I am also a member of the BIPP, British Institute of Professional Photographers, a national organisation which has 1000's of professional photographers, which could also handle additional cover as a last resort.
"Relax as we have this covered."

+Do you have any insurance?

I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance, (view my policy details). I would also recommend that you have your own wedding insurance for your own security as well, which will cover all aspects of your wedding.
"Feel secure as I am covered."

+Can we reserve a date with you?

As all bookings have to be confirmed by signing a wedding contract and paying the booking fee, I am unfortunately unable to hold dates open without this. As a business, I have to take bookings on a first come first served basis. Once you have completed the wedding contract and payment has been received, you can sit back and relax knowing that everything is in place and your date is fully secured in my diary.
"Secure your date with a deposit and contract."

+How do we place our booking?

Firstly you will need to check if I am available on your wedding date. You can do this via email or by telephone. We can also arrange a meeting to discuss your wedding requirements and I'm happy to come to you as long as you are based in the Essex or Hertfordshire region. There is no charge for this consultation.

When you have made your decision to book me, please contact me. I will then provide you with the wedding contract and payment information which is sent via email as a PDF.

The deposit is £250 and final balance is due 2 weeks before your wedding date. It's as simple as that.
"Contact me and we can arrange your booking."

+What are your rates?

As every wedding is unique, I quote individually for this based on your requirements.
"Please use my online form to receive a quote."

+How do I order an album?

I offer a range of album packages or you can purchase them separately after your wedding. Once you have selected the photographs you would like in your album, then you should contact me and let me guide you through the simple process. I will put some designs together for your final approval and once approved, most albums are ready within 2-3 weeks.
"Visit my albums page to see the amazing products I have to offer."
